Loss of Power Steering Due to Leaking Steering Rack on Mercedes-Benz ML500

It is not uncommon for the power steering rack to develop a fluid leak requiring replacement of the rack assembly. Loss of power steering fluid may also cause an abnormal noise and damage to the power steering pump.

Not sure yet where the leak was found as my vehicle is STILL at the dealership! I have had to replace the power steering pump, reservoir, belt, pulleys, rack and far! GEEZZZ!!!!

Power steering rack leaking all over creation.

This leak caused the power steering pump to burn up, as the leak was hard to locate. The mechanic noticed the rack leaking fluid after the pump was replaced.

Total price: $2000

I chose a rebuilt rack and a rebuilt power steering pump.

I'm disappointed as hell in this major and costly malfunction for such a basic item.
Steering rake replaced when the warranty was expired 2 mounts. I ask the dealership to check for any oil leaks before the warranty expired. On the work order it says no leaks and I show them work order. Rake steering was about $4000 and they said that they will give me part for free but I need to pay the labor and that was $700
