Started and engine is making loud clanking noise and now won't start

Sounded like I had cat stuck in fan, drove approxamently 20 miles then husband checked and added oil and drove appr. 4 more miles and then it stalled and reduce engine light came on, he disconnected battery waited then tried to start and it attemped to but didn't start and won't start at all now
