White Smoke From Tail Pipe on Ford F-250 Super Duty

The cooler for the EGR valve can leak coolant internally, which causes white smoke to come from the tail pipe. Hot exhaust gases are cooled by the EGR cooler before being circled back into the engine.

I have had every problem you can think of with this truck. Egr valve, cooler, oil cooler, turbo.... 3 times for these.. twice while under warranty. Fuel issues,lack of power, tire vibrations. This is the biggest piece of crap I have ever bought. All I have ever owner is ford trucks, but this will be my last. Unfortunately I can't get rid of it cause everyone knows what a piece of shi* it is. Ford does not care about its customers anymore. We bail them out when the economy is bad and this is the thanks their customers get!!

I lose power and white smoke comes out tail pipe. I take the egr valve off and clods of carbon build have lodged in my egr valve leaving it open. I pull the pieces of carbon out and it solved the problem for a week or so and then it happens again. I have it at Ford dealership now and they say that it was covered under warranty up to 100,000 miles and I have 102,000. !@#@!## Fords EGR system is poorly engineered and is causing problems for a lot of people. Ford should recall those EGR coolers and oil coolers because they are failing!@#@##@

blowing white, and black smoke foot on pedal but only going 10 miles an hour then sounds like it is not firing on all cycloners, then the truck takes off and runs ok this is the 3rd time i have this problem and ford will not fix it

White smoke is coming from my tail pipe as well. I took took it to the ford dealer and first they told me that the O2 Sensor and PCV System was faulty. I had them change it, but that did not fix the problem. They later determined that my head gasket was leaking antifreeze. To fix, they said $1800. Could not afford it, so i did not get it done yet. My antifreeze level has gone down significantly. So i don't drive my truck for now. Should i trust their diagnostic. By the way, is the EGR valve different from the O2 Sensor?

Oil cooler pluged then over heated EGR cooler and then over heated engine which blew headgaskets.

This happened today after I had to have it jump started. I thought the batteries were dead again. Ford is saying there is coolant in the cylinders they didn't say anything about a EGR valve. There is a big price difference.

EGR Valve Failed / EGR Cooler Failed - Dealer changed twice - Replace EGR Cooler with BulletProof Diesels upgraded cooler design, along with oil cooler (related problem) and oil screen below cooler. Problem has not resurfaced now at 150,000 miles. Their website is very helpful as is their part. I pruchased oil cooler and related parts from Ford. A Ford dealer actually installed the upgraded EGR cooler as they KNOW how poor this design is.

Just bought this truck and is the first diesel powered vehicle I've owned. At least once a day after I drive it for about ten minutes it will blow blue/grey smoke for about a block. Usually happens after I'm at a stop light. Have an appointment with Ford dealer next week. We'll see what happens next.

Foot note to earlier report took my o8 back to ford third time dicussed the erg valve turns out the 1 of the two Turbo's were out, the cab of my truck is up in the air parts all over the shop floor ford said they are covering the repair
I'm sorry your first Ford was a 6leaker, AKA 6.0. The 6.0 is the worst, biggest piece of shit ford made. Get rid of that POS and buy a 6.3 or bigger. I promise you'll be 100% satisfied!!!!!! Best of luck to you... I read on and would like to add a comment or two. It looks like every problem on here has to do with 6.0 or 08 6.4 twin turbo. 08 twin turbo was the first year they produced that motor. Every Ford person will tell you these motors are trash. Find yourself a 7.3 power stroke with ford controller components (not international) or a 7.3 crate clone. I hear most clone crate motors are just as good as fords or some cases better. Either way the 7.3 won't be a let down... Sorry to everyone who has 6.0 or 08 6.4. Good luck to you all!!!!!!!
