Some *aftermarket* cats are incompatible .. IF code PO420 is present - it is possible the downstream 02 sensor has failed. This requires *hands-on* testing by 'qualified personnel' ..!
What state are you in? Some states have longer warranties for your vehicle and could be / have been covered by General Motors. Also, a P0420 indicates ineffective catalyst, and your vehicle may have more than one, so see what has been replaced. An oxygen sensor being failed does not usually result in a P0420 code.
I have a 2013 6speed manual cruze, p0420 came on with the check engine light and I found a recall for the issue, got it reprogrammed free of charge. The check light went off for about a week and came back on recently. Sounds like o2 sensors, I also have a bad negative battery cable (I think) replaced the battery last month and there's corrosion on the new battery now. Also the car has had some miscommunication with the ignition/starter. The car just passed 90k miles and it clearly isn't safe to continue driving daily. The dealership service guy won't return my phone calls, I'm starting to hope I can get something out of this poor service or neglect. Like what if something happens to me while I'm driving. Might not buy chevy anymore, I understand car problems are common but in my opinion they haven't taken care of me. Let me know if there's any resolved Chevy Cruze's out there.
thank you!,I'm not to sure what P0420 is,but when i got it scanned,he said its your converters but when i explained they were replaced he said it might be just a bad sensor amd not reading correctly?if anything i will try the downstream o2 sensor forsure.Wasnt to sure if they replaced that as well but are closed at the moment
This link will help explain further: http://www.autocodes.com/p0420_chevrolet.html Read the entire page. BTW : Yes it is indeed a *possibility* the 02 sensor has failed! As I stated previously - **hands-on** testing by ‘qualified personnel’ IS required. Good luck with it!
