What is your question?
I HAVE A XC70 WITH A CHARGE PROBLEM, IT CAME WITH A NEW BOSCH ON IT, I PUT A NEW BATTERY IN IT, STILL WONT GO OUT AND BATTERY DRAINS,NO CHARGING, TOOK ALTRANATOR TO A LOCAL BATTERY STORE AND THIR GUY BROKE THE PULLY RIGT OFF THE SHAFT AND I DIDNT EVEN ASK THEM TO TAKE IT APART, JUST SPIN IT AND TELL ME WHATS GOING ON. BASTARDS, AND I HAD TO EAT THE 150 BUCKS FOR ANOTHER ALTRANATOR EVEN AFTER THEY TOLD ME A THIRD SORRY THAT SOUNDED MORE CREDIBLE AND IT WAS STILL THEIR FAULT. SO THE PROBLEM IS I PUT BACK ON THE NEW ALTERNATOR AGAIN AND STILL NO CHARGE, I GET VOLTAGE OUT OF THE RED/WHITE WIRE SO ITS SENDING A SIGNAL TO THE ALT TO CHARGE. I TOOK OUT THE ECM UNDER THE DASH AND CANT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. IVE TESTED ALL MY LEADS AND CABLES, NOW THIS IS WHAT I TRIED NEXT AND WONDERED IF ANY OTHER MECHANIC RAN INTO THIS ONE. I PUT THE CAR IN GEAR, KEPP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATE,AS THE ENGINE TORQUES UP, THE ENGINE LIFTS UP AT THE FRONT AND THE BATTERY LIGHT GOSE OUT,I EASE UP AND LET THE IDEL DOWN AND THE LIGHT STAYS OUT, AS I LET IT IDLE IT COMES BACK ON, I REPEATE THIS AND IT DOSE THE SAME, LIGHT GOSE OUT ECT. SO I HAVE A BROKEN MOUNT AND THE HARNESS GOSE RIGHT ACROSS THE MOTOR MOUNT. I JUST WNAT TO VARIFY IF ANY OTHER MECH HAS HAD THIS AND IF SO, I WOULD LIKE AN OPINION BEFORE I GUT MY WIRE HARNESS OPEN, IS THERE ANYTHING IN THAT PLASTIC COVER THAT WOULD REMOTLY COME APART AND CAUSE THE LIGHT TO GO OUT AND COME ON.I PLAN ON REPLACEING THE MOUNT BUT IF SOME ONE ELSE HAS DELT WITH THIS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND SANVE ME THE TIME AND BUTCHER JOB IM ABOUT TO DO TO SEE IF THIS IS THE CULPRIT. OH AND THE BATTERY SHOP THAT TESTED THIR NEW ALTERNATOR AND SAID IT WAS GOOD BUT I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, DONT YOU THINK YOU OWE ME 150 BUCKS NOW, I HEARD YOUR TECH ASK IF THIS WAS THE SAME VOLVO HE BORKE THE FIRST ALTRANATOR ON.
NO...my question is, has any one ever had this issue and is there anything in the harness specifcaly identified from other mechanics experiences that would put the problem in this particular harness before I attempt to cut it open and look for the problem their, if some one can deffinatly identify that, that is where the problem lies then while I am taking out the motor mount to replace it, I will then open up the harness and look there. but if some one knows something different then i'll look else where for the problem insted of butchering my harness.
Ill try this again...the page I was typing disappeared, NO...my question is has any other mech's ever had this problem and had the same issue, and while I am changing the motor mount, should I buthcher my harness there for the problem or look else where. I planed on changing the mount, if other mechanics know of a certain problem within this particular harness that would lead me directly to the fix then ill open it up. I'm trying to verify before butchering a perfectly good harness.
IF I read your original post correctly.........the harness damage is most likely where it's beimg 'flexed' the most , by the broken engine mount. FORGET the mount for a minute and lets look at the harness while running and have someone else watch the charge light. Then lift the harness in the same way the engine mount would.........Will the charge light go out or flicker????? Then THAT is where you start looking for the damage. Whether or not you 'butcher' it is up to you and how much care & time you take in the process. AND I think if your description is accurate , then the problem (besides the mount) is that you don't have a 'perfectly good harness'. Good luck.
GUESS ILL HAVE TO GET THE WIFE TO WATCH THE LITE...THE OLD WIGGLE THE WIRE HARNESS TEST, WHY DIDNT I THINK OF THAT...THANKS
Good luck.
