It overheated in the snow couldn't get to an off-ramp by the time I got off the thing was so hot it buried the dial an stalled. It bellowed black smoke out of the top of the engine..an won't start , it turns over but it's like it don't have no resistance

Compression test , but you pretty much described loss of compression by saying " it's like it don't have no resistance". The other thing that would make the engine turn over/crank with little or less than normal 'resistance' , is a broken or stripped timing belt.
Consistent loss of coolant, and overheat can be the first indication, but a real pressure test and hydrocarbon test should be done. But, I agree with ziptie12, you may have a broken t-belt. We just did one a few months ago. we can check it for you, if you call and schedule. tr 509-545-6165
I know it's not the t belt, pretty sure it's the head, what is the cost to replace the head
No way to give you an exact Estimate, but start around 3 grand. We will need to check lower engine integrity, and may not know about that until it is torn down.
