What is your question?
The fault is intermitant, and power returns when acelerator depressed, there is no warning, the car may do 300 miles with no problem and then the problem will return. Volvo mechanics cant solve this problem. The car has done 85,000 and has been serviced from new by Volvo garages. Other than this fault the car is in first class condition.
No. The Volvo mechanics have seen the fault on two occasions. The first time I was told that I must have put petrol in the tank which had contaminated the diesel. I knew that was not correct. The 2nd time the mechanic said he did not know what the fault was but would start with a fuel pump, then perhaps injectors and if it wasn't an injector it could be a board which sits in the passenger footwell.
Not knowing Volvo characteristics( especially diesel) , Just , by reading your description of symptom and occurrence , I'm leaning towards a loose or corroded 'pin' connection , possibly in the connector related to whatever 'board' is located in the passenger floorboard area. Maybe a corroded ground. Has it EVER had any kind of body work?
The first time this fault occured I called the AA who said roughly what you have said, so I did have it inspected by a local garage but mechanics couldn't find anything wrong. However they did say that because they couldn't see anything wrong didn't mean that it wasn't faulty. They checked the price of the part and told me that the cost would be around £1,000 but they were not 100% sure that would cure the problem. I felt that for £1,000 I need to be sure the fault would be fixed so have been searching for anyone who may have had the same problem. Thanks for your help I do appreciate the time you have taken, I think I may take the chance and have it done. Fingers crossed.
I NEVER SAID THE PART WAS BAD!!!! I said a loose or corroded connection RELATED to it!!! There is a huge difference. Good luck.
No I know you didn't say the part was bad, and if it didn't cure the problem I certainly would not blame you. But having had the part inspected and told there was nothing wrong with connections but the panel could dtill be faulty I will have to take a chance and have the part fitted. I would not sell the car as it is, or even trade it in without allerting people to the problem in which case I doubt anyone would want it. Again thanks for the time you have taken and the advice given.
GOTCHA! , Good luck. I admire your car sales 'ethics' , it's rare! But I agree , I'm the same way.
