have a non starting issue with my 1998 S70 GLT 2.4liter Volvo.
What is your question?
checked the fuel pressure 40psi. Checked both cam and crank sensors by doing a resistance test seemed within range. Have spark. So what am I missing here?
What are the best Volvo repair shops?
RepairPal Certified shops can diagnose and repair your 1998 Volvo S70. They provide transparent pricing with a minimum 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty on repairs and services.
that will be my next check is the timing belt. And have not checked compression yet. So by checking the cam and crank sensors using resistance check, they read within a good range. I have read that I should be doing a DC voltage instead to make sure by using the power and signal wires is that true?
Since spark is present - it is likely the sensors are ok .. TEST compression.
TEST ALL CYLINDERS: IF engine timing is off (timing belt issue) the compression will be low - also note this is an interference engine. You can use google for definition if needed.
will update when I check the other potential issues, thanks for the pointers.
You’re welcome.. Good luck!
So... checked the timing thinking the belt was loose or the tension was loose, not the case. Moved on to compression, checked all five cylinders 90+psi on each cylinder, did find the spark plugs where not torqued they were basically hand tight. Cranked the ignition, car almost wants to start, it is getting fuel, even put in a jumper lead at the fuel pump relay. Still acts like a timing issue, could I have just one of the sensors not functioning, but still getting spark?
There is MUCH to discuss on this issue - unfortunately I haven’t the time .. 90 psi compression is on the low end - it is possible raw gasoline has washed the cylinder walls clean which will cause that .. IF spark plugs are wet (fuel soaked) replace em .. Try disconnecting mass air flow sensor then cranking engine while depressing accelerator pedal to floor and holding it there..
Scan test is highly recommended..
Forgot to mention earlier that I done a scan test, codes came back as misfire on all cylinders, and yes all spark plugs were wet fuel soaked. Getting too much fuel, fuel regulator perhaps?
