VW maintains that the transmission fluid is a "lifetime fill" which never needs replacing, only periodic level checking.i have been told that some of these have had some transmission problems.even if you were to change the fluid and filter, you have to have a special tool to refill it,and you have to refill it at a certain temperature, and expensive for the dealer to do it.i would call the dealer and just ask them, and maybe get a quote on it.also check your maint.sch.book and see what it says.hope this helps
Its about $600 to do it from the dealer. I have heard so many stories that after a fluid and filter change the trans goes out, $7000 plus for a new trans, ouch. Maybe a diagnostic check and possible software up date? We love our Touareg and want to keep it forever, at 90k any other areas I should start thinking about with service? Thanks Finn
i dont see any recalls or reported transmission problems on it.have you been having problems with the transmission?if not try to google or bing, same question you have asked on here.i read somewhere that someone brought theirs into a shop for oil change and it had over 120000 miles on it and the shop owner said, the tranny fluid had never been changed and the fluid looked good and no problems with the tranny.
No real problems, just some hard downshifts sometimes. Thanks for your help. Finn
