Advised compressor leak on vehicle. Need to get fixed asap and told OEM part would take 7-10 days. Is using an after market part reliable?

Hello, honestly, it all depends on the manufacturer of the part. Some aftermarket parts are high quality, and some are not. It's always critical to consider the warranty you get with whatever part is used -- and if the warranty includes labor and refrigerant as needed in the event a replacement fails. Who is doing the repair work, and what does that party recommend doing?
Additional option - I have had very good luck with salvage compressors - many times the salvage vehicles will have low mileage but have been declared a total loss - and if the compressor has been properly removed and sealed - that is a reliable option.. IF the original failure is limited to a leaking compressor only - basically all that’s needed is just the compressor exchange and routine system evacuation and recharge procedures.
I have had a few problems with ‘some’ of the aftermarket compressors - in past years.. The salvage dealers normally provide a warranty on the part as well. Good luck!
