Can the cv axle be damaged by technicians when a ball joint gets replaced?

IF yes - visual inspection should reveal if cv joint boot was *damaged* and grease has leaked out.. This is a kinda unusual problem for a vehicle with 61,500 miles on it - however *hands-on* evaluation will be required.
