repair shop advised the motor is ruined. and quoted me 4951.00 for new motor and timing belt. Claimed car oil filter wasnt changed yet I had 2 oil changes recently. The oil pan showed metal shards and very black. Did the oil change place charge for synthetic oil and a new filter and yet NEVER put synthetic oil or filter? Is the an accurate quote ? Help!

don't know,never been to an oil change place.use to always do my own,but now i go get my oil/filter at Walmart and go to a friends shop and he changes it for $10.00,well sometimes he charges ten bucks but most of the time he don't even charge me.Plus i get to watch him change the filter and the oil while i'm sitting in the shop watching The Andy Griffith Show.NOW,if you go to a Jiffy Lube to get yours done,you might want to youtube their work,because not long ago a news station got word of what they were doing to folks,so they mounted hidden cameras under their vehicles ,told them what work was needed/wanted and they charged him for the work that they said they did,BUT video don't lie,they did NOTHING at all,PERIOD,but charged them hundreds of dollars!
