Have it looked at for a leak on the 'top' portion of the fuel tank, ASAP!!... After repair, it's not good practice to 'top off' gas tank!!... When the pump nozzle cuts off... stop refueling! ... The tank is where fuel belongs, not in the filler neck too!... Overfilling the tank and then parking the vehicle shortly afterwards in warm temps, puts extra (unnecessary) pressure on the system! Including EVAP!... It's your car, you do as you like!.. Just trying to help.
It may be a cracked rollover valve (on top of fuel tank, designed to prevent gas leakage in case of a rollover!) It is a $5 dollar valve which, unfortunately, is not sold separately from the gas tank. Plan on $1,200 for a new tank (including $5 rollover valve) and another $1,000 to drop the rear wheels & axle, & remove the old tank. The good news: this was the subject of a recall. if it hasn't been addressed in your vehicle, you are in luck. Second possibility: You should be able to collect on your COMPREHENSIVE insurance (you do have it, I hope) but you may have to complain long & loud to the ins co.
