What is your question?
I have about 135,000 miles on the car. I haven't felt or heard any of the symptoms they mention if an axle is failing. I've had bumpy driving as a result of a bad tire on the other side of the car and not sure I would hear noise as I turn since I always have the radio on.
How long has your 2002 Volkswagen Passat had this problem?
The leak has been going on for over a year. Was told it was probably from the A/C. I put about 3500-4000 miles on the car a year

It’d be rather moot for us here online to disagree with a mechanic that has the distinct advantage of vehicle presence for *hands-on* inspection / evaluation.
Come we can check your car for free if you do the work here. We are in 10530 Carmenita Rd. Whittier, 90605
I understand. The reason I question it is that 2 mechanics disagree. The first one, who couldn't do the work, said during his inspection, he didn't see any damage to the axle. The second mechanic when asked said it had no oil in it, probably meant grease. But the first mechanic said there are 2 rubber boots that hold grease on the axle and they were fine so the axle must be fine.
IF the axle SEAL is leaking - transaxle fluid is what would be leaking out - therefore at some point more fluid would need to be added back to the transaxle. IF we knew exactly what is leaking we could provide more assistance.
I was told it is the front passenger side, inner axle seal that is leaking
That is a possibility I guess however it is not something that normally occurs according to the posted mileage on your vehicle.. But then again - I cannot inspect the vehicle myself.. Good luck with it!
