Hello, That's an old used car trick, I don't recommend it. Not only does it avoid the issue, but it allows greater pollution from your vehicle. The air is bad enough. Besides that, since both O2 sensors are detecting ineffective combustion, it may not be as simple as the catalytic converter, especially when the turbocharger piping for that vehicle is known for leaks, the intake valves clog at every turn, and the high pressure fuel pump will slowly decrease the amount of fuel it pumps as the cam follower fails. Do yourself a favor with this specific engine family (FSI), do not ignore efficiency issues, it will bite you in the long run.
2007 IS a ‘well’ - “used car†.. Possible beyond ‘reasonable’ repair.
*used car sales lot trick. i.e. a trick used by used car sales lots to get trouble codes to go away long enough to smog/sell the car.
I don’t really know if it works or not - just a suggestion! Considering the year model and suspected mileage. - it may be more costly to repair than it’ll be worth - lots of em running around out there with the light on - especially in the states that do not do emissions testing .. It is not considered in the annual safety inspections. One has to wonder how much longer ‘this vehicle’ will last.
The front AF (air fuel) and the rear O2 (oxygen) sensors live data readings will confirm. Check out this video : https://youtu.be/SLXb4fZx4QA It is really worth a look!
