well you are in CA.only certain converters can be used in CA.you have different emissions standards than we have in NC.your converter is $100.00 more in CA than it is in NC FOR THE SAME EXACT PART NUMBER AT THE SAME EXACT PARTS HOUSE.GOOD GRACIOUS OF LIFE||||||||im sure the labor is higher to.so the first person that answered this is probably right on the price.good luck.maybe you should move to SC,they dont have emissions test there, just a thought, and just kidding, but really SC has no emissions testing.
On my 2001 Kia, its going to cost me about $300 at a mechanic/ Have to get mine fixed too
in NC on 1995 and older, they dont check emissions,if cel light is on,dont matter.they only do safety check.lights, horn, tires, window tint,if to dark, turn signals, etc.heck most people cut converters off and straight pipe em,then sell converter at scrap yard, got platinum in it.not suppose to remove converter, most people look under, but some dont.dmv cracking whip here now, they send people to shops with cel bulb removed from vehicle to test shops that do alot of inspections, you screw up and they fine you and take license,1st time for a year.
