why does my 2013 2.5L automatic have such a slow (lagging) response in 1st gear

my car has such a slow response on take off-almost every time. My mechanic says he doesn't see anything wrong with the car, it's just the way it is, not like older japanese cars. Called VW dealer, said the lagging is normal. Still not convinced so I took a 2012, same engine, same transmission for a test drive last night and car had a much quicker response on 1st gear. took right off when pressing accelerator while mine, have the accelerator almost half way and still lags. I still can't see how this is normal !
