Why does blue water mark light on dash stay on

What is your question?

I believe it is my cooling light but comes on, stays on, and vehicle then has hot air from the engine coming through front vents. Just bought it.

How long has your 2000 Volkswagen Beetle had this problem?

Check coolant level - possibly an engine thermostat malfunction which will require *hands-on* evaluation..
