What's the cost to replace a starter
3 Replies
Did you know that RepairPal has a cost estimator function, which will show a price range for your vehicle, for your repair, for the area in which you reside? For our shop, I could get a Denso remanufactured starter for $477 and labor (4.6 hrs) is about $460, so total parts & labor would be $937, plus tax & shop fee.
The Mitchel time ( industry standard) to replace the starter is 3.5 hours. Multiply that by what your local shops charge by the hour for the labor cost. As for the starter itself, the prices vary from reman. to reman. The more inexpensive brands, TYC, USA Indust. run between 150 and 200 right up to 400 for Denso and Remy.
Not every shop uses Mitchell; most shops I'm familiar with run AllData, which is also what RepairPal uses, I believe. Here is what RepairPal estimates for this repair: Starter Replacement (5.7L V8) for your 2007 Toyota Tundra near 77095 RepairPrice Estimate: $759 to $1099 Customized for your location Estimate includes: Labor: $482-$615 Parts: $277-$484 (excludes tax & fees) Parts Included: Starter
That's really high ,wow.1000$ for a starter..
well it not as cut and dry as to unbolt the starter and done. Its the removal of all the stuff in the way in order to get it out. I believe you have to remove the intake, belt, dip stick guide, heat shields, alternator, manifold. Starters are pricey for that car to begin with. I wouldn't recommend doing it on your own unless you have some experience working on cars before. The dealer would quote you at around the same price.
Yep labor calls for around 5-6 hours, rebuilt starter around 250.00 +. Oh and 'Mitchell" per shop key shows 5.8hrs.
