Would an incorrect install of timing belt misfire happen right away or not?

Most likely ignition misfire and not belt related.

You might try this. If engine runs rough all the time, while it is idling, disconnect one spark plug at a time. If engine runs the same with that plug disconnected, and does not get worse, you probably have a bad plug, bad wire, bad individual coil, or bad injector.
