What is your question?
changing the oil in my 2001 toyota tacoma and the oil filter was severly stuck. While trying to remove it, the cap broke off completely and all that is left is the threaded part of the oil filter still threaded into the motor mount area. Cannot figure out how to remove it.
How long has your 2001 Toyota Tacoma had this problem?

This is going to be tough to go through because we can't see how bad this is. Generally speaking though you need to be very careful to not ruin the threads. You can use vice grips but be very gentle. Soak the area in pb blaster as well. Alex
Experienced mechanic probably has already made a tool for this - may let you borrow it. Flat bar steel - two 1/4 x 1 1/2 bolts - make tool to match up with holes in a new filter - remove outer filter canister - use tool to remove remaining filter base.. Works like a charm!
Drill, drill bits, ruler and light duty welder will be needed .. Weld a hex nut or an old socket in center of flat bar for turning - using a wrench or a ratchet. Takes approximately 15 minutes to manufacture tool - even for a novice.
Ok, it's completely broken, the whole cap of the oil filter. And I'm not sure if the vice grips and soaking it will help. Is there any more advice u can give me so I can keep him from messing up the threads like I think he is doing? Lol
