Why won't my driver front door shut?.

The other day I existed out of my 1999 Toyota Sienna. I proceeded to shut the door behind me, but it wouldn't shut. I tried several times without success. I realized something seems to be blocking latch from closing properly. Without being able to shut the door my battery will drain, therefore not being able to start my vehicle. I detached the battery cable, so it wouldn't drain my battery. It's going to be impossible to drive as well, without holding the door as I drive. How do I get the door to shut properly?.
