Stalls while driving no steering no brakes at 65mph new battery new alternator

When it stalls there is no power and the starter does not crank. After waiting a few minutes to an hour it will crank but not start. If left over night it often starts. It seems there is a short or a wire however if I am able to stop and shut off the engine before the complete stall occurs and wait twenty minutes it starts normally. When it stalls while driving if I put it in neutral and give it gas it will continue to run long enough to power it off the road, as the steering and brake power is immediately lost. I am a 58 yr old mom and I am terrified, I cannot get another car right now.

This alternator has got to put out 14 volts to the battery.. This can be tested with a professional scanner to see what the computer is getting as a voltage signal...NOT tested at the battery!!!... I had one in the shop and put three alternators on and all three did not charge ENOUGH!.. Got a remanufactured 'power supreme' from NAPA.... Fixed the problem!!.. Now, that was my experience, yours may be different...

Re: alternator I just read post to Highway Garage, who put in the alternator in Oct.2013, one of eight or more tows by AAA they checked the volts at 14.5 last fall (2014). Asked them to check for anything lose in alternator that may cause power shut down while driving. Toyota said fault codes were O2 Sensor or PCM but that should not cause power loss, right? Please respond.

Re: Alternator- Informed Highway Garage what you posted, they replaced alternator Oct. 2013. requested check for short or lose connection from alternator, and that mechanic test drive RAV4 to experience process seconds prior to total power loss while driving. Highway Garage is in Chagrin Falls, Bainbridge Twsp. OHIO.
