I checked the EFI fuses and relays, but I couldn't hear the fuel pump make any noise when I checked it out. Is this common to happen if you run out of fuel?

Maybe it didn't run out of fuel... The fuel pump on this vehicle only runs while 'cranking' engine, not if just turn key on... Possible timing belt or ignition system issue instead of fuel problem... Just maybe!
It did run out of fuel, it was on the red, and I was going to the gas station when it happened. The engine cranks over well, but it doesn't turn on. I haven't check for sparks on the spark plugs but I will later on, I didn't hear the pump turn on, so it could be the wires or connections to the pump, or finally the pump.
Seen this many times as I fix'em for a living!.. There is NO reason for the pump to quit working just because if ran out of gas!.. Good luck with it. .. Let other readers/owners know the outcome by posting your findings.
