The dealer "Flushed" my injectors, now the Catalytic converter is malfunctioning
What is your question?
The dealer flushed out my fuel injectors, now the check engine code for catalytic converter comes on. Could the injector flush have caused this? They want $1800.00 to replace the catalytic converter. It was fine before this "flush".
The car has 95000 miles on it, but is 9 years old, and the warranty is only good for 8 years. The car seems to run OK, and it doesn't seem to smell or overheat (although Prius's don't have temperature gauges).
Thanks,
Bruce

How long has your 2008 Toyota Prius had this problem?

No they didn't tell me what the code was, but I might be able to get that. Would it make a difference regarding whether the flushing caused the converter malfunction?
Thanks,
Bruce
Code PO420 indicates the catalyst inside the converter has depleted to the point that it no longer functions as desired .. Which is fairly common for a vehicle of that age and with the mileage indicated ..
It's very difficult to say whether the flushing procedure contributed to fact or not .. However there are some flushing solvents that should not be used .. Considering the Toyota dealer did the flush, one would hope it was performed correctly and the approved chemicals were used.
Wish I could be more absolute but that is about all we can do without knowing 'exactly' what was done and the products that were used in the process.
One more note: In the future - unless the combustion engine has fuel system related problems - 'do not' have the fuel system components serviced..
Preventive maintenance on the fuel system is quite often used as just a sales gimmick to increase revenue..
IF it is done incorrectly - it can do more harm than good! .... Just say no thank you.
