Was able to clear code, but MAINT REQD light would blink, then turn off. Now engine will not turn over...engine will sound like it wants to turn over, but will just stop with the key still in ON position. Check engine & MAINT REQD lights stay on also.
p0453 is just the fuel tank pressure switch, high voltage; Should have nothing to do with a no start condition. Just works with the EVAP system. Possible bad connection at the connector.
Thank you for the quick reply. Yes, it was the read for the FTP sensor. But after the code was cleared, the next day when I went to start it and turned the ignition, it would try to turn over but would just shut off with the ignition in the ON position. Check engine & MAINT REQD lights stayed on. No more error codes on the OBDII reading for P0453 or any error codes at all. Where would the possible bad connection at the connector be? At the FTP sensor?
If the code is gone now, it may not be an issue at this point. The EVAP has not ran a test yet again to set the code again at this time. Maint req. is a mileage counter for preventive maint. and inspection. Now back to the basics, Fuel, Fire, and compression. Check those and see what is the cause for the one missing.
Thank you, good info. Would you know how to access the fuel sending unit on the 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser from the inside of the vehicle? We had issues before with rodents chewing up the wiring harness to the sending unit. We'd like to check to see if that is the issue, but we do not know how to access the fuel tank where the sending unit wiring harness is from the inside of the vehicle. It is by the back seats and there should be a door that goes to the fuel tank area from inside the vehicle. I was trying to find a diagram or youtube video, but couldn't find anything online. We also had to get a new computer because of rodents because the computer was fried when trying to start the engine and the rodents had eaten through one of the spark plug wiring.
Lot's of issues with rodents in our area: Nesting in the intake manifold, air filter box, on top of the gas tank at the fuel sending unit.... Thanks!
Hello Professor G: Well, we found the problem....it was the fuel sending unit and the rats chewed through the wiring harness again! Seeing about ordering the part from Toyota or an OEM store online - trying to get the quickest shipping since the Land Cruiser is "dead". We had to remove the back seat behind the driver's seat, take off the plastic covers where the seat locks into, take off the plastic step plate, and then take up the carpet. Underneath is the metal cover and when we opened it, the rats had chewed all three wires to the harness and there was rat droppings, etc. It's the only place where my husband did not rat-proof with wire mesh, but he plans on doing it now. Hopefully, this has saved us hundreds of dollars in labor to NOT have Toyota fix this time.
The website for the part which costs $39.83 as opposed to our local Toyota parts department at $78.05 is: www.oemtoyotapartsgroup.com. Now we're just seeing who can ship it the quickest!
Thank you for all your help!

I don't remember where they run. Under the car or under the carpet. As long as the ECM has a code the traction wi appear.

I have to deal with a lot of rodent and squirrels here as well that's great. Sorry I didn't get back sooner it was a crazy busy day. Good luck.
