What is your question?
changed lock up solenoid, filter and fluid. Checked all wiring. Light still on. Car runs great and transmission changes smoothly. How can I fix this?
What makes this problem better or worse?
Car stalls when engaging drive when engine cold.
How long has your 2006 Toyota Corolla had this problem?
a few weeks.

Hello, your P0741 trouble code could be related to a problem in the valve body of the transmission itself, in software or internal transmission failure. There are troubleshooting routines that will isolate the cause to the failed component. I certainly hope the converter and solenoid were not replaced as a guess -- it would be an expensive guess!
Have qualified personnel scan transmission live data during test drive!
What exactly should they be looking for during this test drive? I am reluctant to believe anything from "my" mechanic and would like to be informed about what is happening
A professional quality scan tool can monitor transmission control systems and display transmission activity on live data screen .. This includes shift control solenoids and many other very useful diagnostic segments while vehicle is in service bay and being driven at highway speeds.. Additionally - an experienced transmission technician using this scan tool in the manor suggested is your best choice here.. There is absolutely no reason for unnecessary parts replacement - that will be eminent with guesswork.. Good luck with it!
I had a full scan whilst driving today. The results show a perfect transmission with no faults apart from the original P0471 code !!! I note that the stalling problem when engaging drive only occurs when the check engine light is on. After each scan and cancelling the check engine light, the light stays off for a "period" of time. (varies !). When it comes back on, the engine stalls when engaging drive when the engine is cold.
The torque converter is remaining in *lockup mode* - that’ll kill the engine every time when transmission is shifted into gear! I can’t suggest any particular repair - however I do suggest more *hands-on* testing be performed to discover why the converter is not unlocking - possible converter control solenoid or solenoid circuitry.. You will probably need to leave your vehicle with an auto repair facility for a couple days so this can be tested while the engine / transmission is cold .. I will also note transmission fluid is more viscous while cold.. However it is likely the fluid will get replaced during the actual repair. Good luck!
https://www.engine-codes.com/p0741_toyota.html Possible causes Low transmission fluid level Dirty transmission fluid Faulty torque converter clutch solenoid valve Torque converter clutch solenoid valve harness or connectors Torque converter clutch solenoid valve circuit is open or shorted Transmission internal mechanical problem What does this mean?
They were ! Trial and error mechanics at my expense! Where would I obtain these troubleshooting routines?
The engine stalling when engaging drive (no problem with reverse) started after changing the torque converter with a new one. Now as the weather gets colder, I need to run the engine for several minutes to warm it up before engaging drive. I will try to find a mechanic who has the full scan tools to check the transmission when running, although I not previous comments where it was clearly stated that "the transmission will never have to be replaced as a result of the check engine light being on".
I can surely state that the last quote is wholly inaccurate. However, no need to rush to judgement here. Proper methodical diagnostic steps yield accurate results.
