My RSI cuts out at 6000rpm and i need to find out the course. Normal is 8000rpm
What is your question?
Diagnostics showed nothing wrong. Changed the Distributor Cap,the Rotar and the Bogey cords but the car still cuts out between 5000rpm and 6000rpm. Car should ref up to 8000rpm.
Please help
RepairPal Certified shops can diagnose and repair your 1998 Toyota Corolla. They provide transparent pricing with a minimum 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty on repairs and services.
They did't sell that in the U.S. that's why , for that question. My info shows it's got 4 individual throttle bodies and 5-valve per cyl. set up with VVT-i , is that correct? IF so , is it still stock(original) or do you have any mods on it ? When you say 'cuts out' at 6K do you mean like it bogs down , or is it going into 'fuel cut' mode as if it's hit the red line already?..........Do you have a scanner that can monitor live data?
Well the only modification i made on the car was putting a free flow exhaust system. That was a few years ago though. When i say it cuts out its like im hitting the red line. When i excelerate slow then it goes beyond 6k.
Only thought I have so far , is cam/valve timing(VVT-i) and worn timing chain. Are you able to monitor it with a scanner while someone else is driving? OR if scanner is capable of recording a 'snapshot' of data while it's under the condition you describe............By the way ....Johannesburg? .........Long way from here in West Virginia!
I took it to a mechanic last night. He will put it on a scanner today to see if it picks up any errors.
lol, yeah im actually in Johannesburg, South-Africa...
I'm used to Hondas' variable valve timing stuff , I don't know what software Toyota offered on a '98 Corolla over there. IF you can run a self test through the scanner of the VVT-I function or if it shows it on live data while driven , that may give clues. Keep me posted I'm curious.//////////////////////////////..................,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,anything?...04/03/2014
