Common problem on these starters, have fixed a bunch of em...cick-click-click then finally start... The copper contacts inside the starter are worn.. Not a big job to replace them and save a pile of money!.. Search YouTube for a vid on how it's done then you decide if you qualify.. IF not, you may have a car savvy friend that can install the contact set... Or just have the starter replaced.. It WILL eventually stop cranking altogether!!
Agree with pushrod......replace whole starter and you should be fine. Might as well replace instead of fix, it is 17 years old.
How ya been pushrod? Just got done fixing a 2002 Ford Escape which needed: Inner and outer tie rods, front wheel bearings, Cv half-shaft, lower control arm passenger side and new strut mounts......kind of tired.....LOL!
I bet so, right smart of work there! Been busy working on my ol junk this weekend... You know them things that you put off until it comes a time you just got to do it... Well it came that time!!
