2004 toyota corrlla wont crank...it will click instead...new battery, starter good because i had it checked at advance auto.What could it be?

Car started slowing down in the road then it just stopped...battery is new..and starter is good...tried cranking but it want turn over...it will click and thats it..i notice a little smoke coming from battery/cable...just puzzled

What makes this problem better or worse?

Nothing...only clicks i stead of cranking
