No diagnostic codes displayed. Timing belt was changed approx. 10000 miles ago. replaced distributor cap, rotor, plugs and wires.

Timing belt has either lost tension, broken or the teeth are stripped off the belt!! It turns the camshaft which turns the distributor! Or is supposed to if the belt is ok.
that vehicles camshaft has a high tendency to break right in the middle. the oil passage on the cylinder head welds shut from heat, then the cam no longer gets oil at that location. the camshaft breaks, so your timing belt that is good, spins, but the distributor does not. this also tells me that your vehicle had a blown head gasket not that long ago, it is heat that caused the problem.
Wow, really? This is the 7AFE 1.8 engine, same as the Corolla, you still think the camshaft is the problem??
your correct, it's not the cam, this is the one with the two gears that ride against each other then.
