Hold the button down in that position and let it go after 3 seconds , mine did the same thing apparently it doesn't have a auto close feature you just have to hold it.
After more research I found the problem was from changing the battery. When that was done the sunroof lost its close setting. Repair was simple, just hold the close switch and eventually the roof fully closed and that reset the setting.
