I have a 1998 Camry with 166,000 miles. Slow auto transmission response

What is your question?

When the car sits for a couple of days and you start the car and you shift the transmission to drive or reverse the motor needs to run a bit before the transmission will engage. If we drive the car on a regular basis the transmission will engage right away every time.

I agree with pushrod. Make sure they replace the internal filter and get that fluid drained and refilled asap. Dont drive it anymore until you do! Otherwise, you might as well start saving for a new transmission, which is WAY more expensive than just a transmission service.
