The 96 has a crank sensor I was told to disregard the sensor when installing 96 into my 95 2.2

Simply transfer the ignition components from the 95 to the 96.... Toyota *2.2L* crank sensor = production date sensitive!
don't disregard. The 2.2 needs the CPS to run. The good news is that the sensor is the same from 1995 to 2001. It should just plug into the existing harness.
The 96 engine will bolt right in. You will use you 95 distributor and existing wiring and computer, you will not use the crank sensor.
