Were the replacement struts a complete assembly? .... Installition procedure = simply remove old strut 'assembly' and install new strut 'assembly' ? This 'assembly' would have included ALL mounting hardware as well.

Some still replace only the strut itself - re-using the spring and mounting hardware - which is a mistake..
