I had the same problem. I cleaned the mass air flow sensor and the problem was solved. I cleaned the 3 sensors and their leads using wax and oil cleaner. This is a common prep chemical used before applying pin striping to a car. CRC makes a MAF sensor cleaner for about $9. I used q-tips to apply the cleaner. I also purchased two new sensors from Advanced Auto Parts. Neither of them worked correctly. The first one shut the engine off at 4000 rpm under full throttle. The second one would only let the engine rev to 5000 rpm. During full throttle acceleration my car does not shift until 6000 rpm. I would recommend cleaning your original sensor or buying only a genuine Toyota replacement. Removal and cleaning only takes about 15 minutes.
