Car "thinks" key is still in ignition when driver's side door is opened, but after key is removed. When this occurs, we cannot lock the doors with the key fob, or by manually pushing the lock button inside car. Also cannot start the car when this occurs - engine cranks at full speed, but will not start. This happens intermittently.
How long has your 2008 Toyota 4Runner had this problem?

Sounds like an ignition switch or tumbler issue. Some disassembly and testing is required so if you don't normally work on cars use this link to find a good shop near you. https://repairpal.com/repair-shops Alex
Try this - using the red straw - spray some WD-40 into the ignition lock - the slot where the key go in .. No need to spray an excessive amount - just enough to lubricate the internals .. Insert key and turn on / off a few times - remove key and insert it a few times. Good luck!
