Both the Traction Control (TRAC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) systems receive input from the ABS sensors for proper operation, a full scan test with live data will help find the problem area...usually this is related to a wheel speed sensor malfunction!... Parts stores cannot perform a scan test... They can only read codes!!
Yesterday, I resolved a very similar problem on my 2001 Lexus GS430 which is RWD. I had the Check Engine light on as well as both VSC lights I did a Google search for "2001 Lexus GS430 check engine light and VSC lights" or something like this. Of the many causes people cited, two of the more commonly mentioned causes were a loose/disconnected hose behind the air filter ....and...... a faulty (or not tighten) gas cap. I check my air cleaner and I did not find a loose/disconnected hose. I then checked my gas cap. I discovered that the rubber O-ring in the cap had a crack so the cap was not sealing properly. I bought a new cap and installed it, and the lights turned off! Hooray! (Note: As you probably already know, on Toyotas, always tighten the cap so that it is very tight and 'clicks' a few times. I learned many years ago that most Toyotas/Lexuses require a completely closed/sealed fuel system. Any leaks and you'll have warning lights and/or poor engine performance. Hope this helps.
