What is your question?
My vehicle is a 1sxt gen. 1985 Toyota 4Runner, 2.4L Manual. The truck will start, then die. I tested plugs and when it starts or I'm cranking, I get spark. When key returns to "ON" position after starting, I lose spark. I know that after starting and key returns to ON position, I should still have power to ignition, but I don't. How do I fix this?
What makes this problem better or worse?
better when cranking/starting, worse after cranking or starting... lose IGN. power.
How long has your 1990 Toyota 4Runner had this problem?
brand new rebuilt engine. Ignition worked fine before rebuild.
Have tested all fuses. There are TWO fuse boxes on this 4runner. One in the driver side kick panel with 9-15A, 1-10A and 2-7.5A. The other fuse box is by the battery in the engine bay. I found 3 15A fuses bad and the 80A big fuse was bad. They were all replaced before engine ever went back in. I think you may be right about the ignition switch failure. Where is the ignition switch on this truck? Been googling and can't find any pictures of the location/plug. Thanks btw =]]
Just put in new plugs today because my "old" new plugs were fouled from several days of cranking. Started up, but dies again shortly after start. Something is killing the ignition after start. If we figure out what is causing the plugs to stop after it starts... we'll have a running truck.
