My check engine light is on, my cruise control light is blinking. What is this?

It is a Subaru Legacy GT wagon, 2.5 with an aftermarket turbo and exhaust system. 160,000 miles, and at 150,000 we had a major set of repairs on the drivetrain, new gaskets, timing belt, radiator, new hoses. This flashing light and check engine light just started, never happened before. When I pop the hood, there is a smell of gas. No apparent leaking of any kind
