Why car wouldn't start after sensor replaced?

What is your question?

Yesterday I replaced VSS in my 1998 Subaru Legacy, car wouldn't start, put the old sensor back in, car wouldn't start even though was running previous to replacing. Car sat overnight then started this morning. I know nothing about mechanics but why would it start this morning after not starting last night with either sensor? Thanks!
