when shifting gears and clutch is let out the car makes a grinding noise almost sounds like a brake dragging shifts fine brakes work fine check engine light also on and sometimes abs light

Vehicle presence IS required for audible identification and hands-on testing .. Trained ear and years of experience of a seasoned mechanic - including full scan test is preferable.... Anything less is simply guessing at it and that only adds to the dilemma. http://repairpal.com/repair-shops

Usually repair shops don't change anything to check out a noise that an be detected by test driving .. The scan test is required to find out why the lights are on and there will be a charge for that.... AutoZone can read the engine codes for free but they can't communicate with the abs module... One option is get the engine code numbers then post them here for more help... Intermittent abs codes can wait... We will be glade to help if we can!
