What makes this problem better or worse?
Sunny days, full gas tank
How long has your 2017 Subaru Forester had this problem?

Never 'top off' fuel tank when refueling - that can lead to raw fuel entering the evap system resulting in gas smell - plus system damage - by the time vehicle is driven to dealer - fuel level has dropped to an acceptable level. (This is just an online scenario - 'may not' be applicable - but is possible)
You may consider leaving the car with them for a few days so they can duplicate the exact conditions in which you smell gas. Alex
Sounds like its under warranty , get the number to Subaru USA and talk to a rep., mention sick feeling and light headed, due to fumes
is fuel smell only apparent with full tank of gas and goes away at 3/4 or less. if so Problem could be o-ring on fuel pump not sealing
1st dealer I took it to said they tested for leaks and did not fiind any. He gave me the same story- about overfilling. I have always been careful and let the pump shut itself off. After this service visit I tried setting gas pump flow to just the 1st or 2nd click on the pump handle to avoid any surge of gas - but no difference. The smell is most prevalent inside my garage and persists for multiple hours.(and no, I do not have any power equipment or gas cans inside the garage- and the smell only occurs when this Forester is in the garage). I took it to a 2nd dealer today who claimed to do more exhaustive work and still can find no problems and says they can't smell any gas. I asked them to try parking it in a small garage space - a typical service garage is a large space with doors opening and closing frequently.
If it is cold outside when tank is filled - then vehicle is driven only a short distance and parked in a warmer climate - the fuel *WILL* expand - which can force fuel / fuel vapor into the evap system resulting in gas smell - - there has got to be a ‘logical’ reason for this concern. Again - just a possibility - that’s all we can offer - online. Good luck with it!
