Re Subaru Forester 2009 (currently about 180000km on clock): Two orange lights came on and 'cruise' - started flashing. Other than that the car was running normally (but I couldn't engage cruise control). Mechanic used a small computer-like thing to 'clear' the catalytic converter (?) or sensors...but aftet he did that, as I went to drive away the car stalled. Mechanic thought maybe spark plugs or spark line...but the problem only happened after he cleared the issue that had caused the lights on dash to come on. Advice will be appreciated. Regards Lynn

For this I highly suggest a second opinion. There isn't much we can tell you to do if you don't work on the car yourself. A complete hands-on inspection with a good scanner is required. This is equipment professional shops carry to quickly and accurately diagnose vehicles. Use this link to find a good shop near you. https://repairpal.com/repair-shops Alex
Just as a side note - cruise control is rendered inoperative any time there is a problem detected within the engine operating systems .. That's why that light flashes - it doesn't indicate a problem with the CC itself.
Yes I understand that the cruise control won't work when a problem is indicated by the engine lights & traction control lights. Although it seems that the sensor/s were the issue, what is puzzling is the fact that the car started stalling immediately afterwards. The mechanic is a good bloke but he is a bit mystified why this happened. Thankyou for your reply. Regards Lynn
Yes - that is a mystery .. However by TESTING for proper ignition spark and fuel delivery - it shouldn’t be that hard to solve.
Thankyou Alex. The mechanic did use a scanner/computer diagnostic tool to find and fix the problem of the warning lights on the dash. The 'mystery' is why the car started to run so poorly straight afterwards. Thankyou for your reply, Tegards, Lynn
