What material is used on the front disk brake pads

I have been told the pads should be replaced. It seems there are three choices. What is installed at the factory?

It does fine , no noise, car stops perfect. I just question the reason. I was told I needed everythingg

It has not been a problem, the rotors are w/o any scoreing at all.
