Not metallic..yet. new rotors, pads today. No change. Wheel bearing? Almost sounds like out of round tire. New ball joints..tie rod ends. No pulling left or right. Straight and true. But loud in tune with rpms...slows or speeds up with engine revolutions. Axle bearing? Axle support. Front wheel drive sw2 wagon ...Saturn. Gets towed coast to coast behind semi tractors being delivered. Used trans last January. Fluid bright red clean...not burnt. Smells new. Change every 30,000. No leaks from seals.

A wheel bearing will definitely make noise as you speak of, and will change depending on load. A repair shop with a professional lift is needed to lift the car and thoroughly inspect the wheels, steering and suspension to determine if there is a wheel bearing concern.
Roughened hub bearing is prime suspect. Can operate vehicle with ONE front wheel jacked off ground to listen for roaring noise .. Then the other side should be done likewise .. Park brake needs to be engaged plus operator remaining in seat for this TWO PERSON test .. BE CAREFUL - if uncomfortable attempting this test - seek *hands-on* assistance from qualified personnel - at local auto repair facility. Good luck!
