Should be self explanatory - takes power to turn ac compressor and alternators extra load with ac on... This power has to be provided by the engine - therefore it will leave less power to move the vehicle.

Normal operation ! Of course this is less noticeable in vehicles with bigger engines - which have more power to spare.
