I had my car diagnosed and some of the codes that came up where the 400 and the 300 should I have the whole cat. convertor be replaced or should I try the O2 sensor first?

My first question is, if you had it diagnosed, then you should have the answer to that. Just because the code has been read, that isn't a diagnosis. After the codes have been read, then you use that information to guide you to the fault. Finding the fault is the diagnosis, and we are not part changers, that fault needs to be diagnosed to find the correct answer.
That's what I thought as well, but that is all they did with also stating I should take it to the dealership to be worked on. That they could order the converter which would be around $500 just for the part. So I guess that is $75 dollars down the drain! thanks for your answer
A good muffler shop should be able to install one for less money. If that's actually is the problem.
