I noticed a scratch on my headlight that is about 2 inches long and Maybe 2 mm deep, is there anyway I can fix it myself without ruining the quality of the whole headlight?
RepairPal Certified shops can diagnose and repair your 2006 Porsche 911. They provide transparent pricing with a minimum 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty on repairs and services.
2 mm deep.?.. That's a grove! .. Not much can be done for that! .. Automobile Rubbing Compound will remove 'scratches' .. but that is a bit more than a scratch..
Thank you for replying to me. I might want to try the rubbing compound, is there any specific brand that you know it works better?
I have been told that the plastic is covered with some special coatings to prevent it from discoloration, doesn't the rubbing compound take off the coating and make the plastic deteriorate faster?
Thanks again for your help.
Anything you try that will remove scratches is going to remove any protective coating that's on the light.. I don't know your skill level but it may be possible to re-coat the light with clear coat after "scratch" removal.. I have done that 'successfully' on some older, lesser value automobiles.. Search YouTube for a video on headlight restoration and look around there, might be worth a shot.. Hey, if you want the "scratch" gone, either try to remove it OR replace the light assembly.. Maybe have an auto detailing shop look at it or even a paint & body shop .. Good luck either way!
