Suspect failed engine thermostat.... Not a DIY friendly repair 'at all' due to location!
Hi. Sounds like you have a failed thermostat like stated earlier or possible failing of failed water pump. Thermostat is less than $10 but labor may get you if you can't do yourself. Cost on water pump is more along with labor. Install a fail-safe thermostat, it will fail in the open position instead of closed allowing coolant to still circulate within the engine and keep it cool, unlike a closed thermostat that will make car run hot and overheat. Only downfall is if it fails in the winter you will have little to no heat inside cabin.
Just so we get this right here! .. Post the part number for this "fail safe thermostat" - **that will fit this vehicle** .. if you can find it... The link below is for informational purposes only: https://www.amazon.com/Motorad-7200-180-Failsafe-Thermostat/dp/B000C5CE0W The above part does not fit this vehicle but for anyone that 'might' be interested, copy & paste the Amazon link .. Read the customer reviews! .. You can safely bet it will fail, that's the only thing "fail safe" about it! Correct replacement part = NAPA Solutions > PART # NOE 6052545 > FITMENT 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada... Thermostat with housing .. 'Retail price' = $43.95
This is the replacement procedure showing the correct part: https://youtu.be/qk2__HwMIqY Good luck with it!
